Hot water in your apartment may be produced by an individual boiler, an electric water heater or a collective system depending on your accommodation. In case of failure, it is important to identify the source of the problem before any action.
Important: Any problem due to misuse or insufficient maintenance may be charged to the tenant.
Steps to check your installation
1. Check the type of installation
Collective heating or hot water: In this case, any action must go through the building manager or management company.
Individual boiler or electric water heater
2. Check the power supply
For digital boilers or water heaters, check that the appliance is not in "summer" or off mode.
Make sure the appliance is plugged in and that the corresponding circuit breaker has not tripped.
3. Check the settings
Electric water heater: check the thermostat position and wait a few minutes for the water to heat up after switching back on.
Digital boiler: check the hot water mode and boiler pressure (often shown on a small pressure gauge).
The pressure is considered abnormal if it is below 1 bar or above 3 bars.
Older boiler: check the hot water control dial.
If your water heater runs on gas
Check the gas supply
Check if other gas appliances are working.
If none are working, it may be a general outage.
Check the gas supply valve
Make sure it is open.
Check the water heater
Ensure it is turned on.
Refer to the manual if an error code is displayed.
Check the gas meter (if accessible)
Make sure there are no error messages.
⚠️ If you smell gas
Open windows immediately
Do not use any electrical devices
Turn off the gas supply
Contact emergency gas services immediately
If the problem persists
Even after these checks:
