Bad smells from the pipes can appear in your kitchen or bathroom. The most common causes:
- Build-up of food residue or soap in the traps,
- Stagnant water in the pipes,
- Dirty or clogged trap.
Steps to get rid of bad smells
Method 1: Bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar
Pour 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda directly into the smelly trap.
Add the equivalent of a glass of white vinegar. A chemical reaction will occur and foam slightly.
Block the drain and leave for about 30 minutes.
Rinse with 1 litre of boiling water to clear the residue.
### Method 2: Cleaning or replacing the trap
- If the bad smell continues, you may need to remove the trap to clean it thoroughly.
- Place a bowl under the trap before unscrewing it to catch the water.
- If the trap is damaged, replace it with a new one.
